Chris and Margaret visited Fass School in 1998. They saw the poor state of the school and decided to try and help. They raised money to build a double classroom and library and supplied some much-needed equipment. Now when ever they go to Fass they get a fantastic welcome.

Fass Njagga Choi  is located 25 miles away from the Capital City of the Gambia, Banjul, on the North Bank of the River Gambia and about 6 Kilometers away from the Eastern side of sister country of Senegal. The village is the second largest in Lower Nuimi District and has a weekly community Market programme called “Lommo”.  Over 49 percent of the population are children and young people. And about 60 percent of this population are from poor family backgrounds.
Founded in the 1800s, the inhabitants of Fass depend deeply on Agriculture. Recent seasons have indicated a massive drop down of crops due to unpredictable nature of rain fall, lost of labor force Youthful population as a result of rural migration, low investment in Agricultural development, poor marketing system and land tenure problems. However, with very low literacy rate in the adult population, many parents cannot afford the cost of schooling in this village and tends to depend on donors humanitarian gestures.

Culture and Ethnicity in Fass The village is composed of ethnic groups which includes Wolof, Mandinka, Fulla, Serer, and Manjago among many. The Serer form the second latest after the Wolof. They paid much attention to culture and traditions. The Gambia society pays little attention to culture but an irony in the Serer Society. They organize an annual event of Wresting contests promoted by the village with no support of outside the community. Wresting can be associated with the Serer ethnic group but is  practiced today by many other ethnic groups. During this event, people from different part of the Gambia and Senegal are gathered in a week long culture gathering to revived culture. The absent of culture in any society will be a great loss to the incoming generation.

Education The village currently has two Nursery Schools each nursery has over 80 children. A Basic Cycle School composed of Primary and Junior Secondary school. Fass also has one Madrassa school (Islamic School).

Health The village has only one community health Centre with only one health worker. Serious cases are mostly taken to Essau for medical attention.  Though there are traditional health workers in the village, Plans are high to improve the health center.
